Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
