Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be crafting a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
